Hi everyone 👋🏾 I’m Sherisse, a writer and creative based in London. I’m building Margin & Type, a creative platform focused on storytelling, culture and voices that don’t always get enough room in traditional publishing/media, and I also write Backchat Griot (over on substack) where I explore Black British identity, Caribbean heritage, womanhood, belonging, language and culture. I’m currently writing across essays, children’s books and a few other slightly-too-many creative ideas 😂, with a particular interest in Black British and Caribbean stories and better representation within publishing. I’d especially love to connect with Black writers, editors, publishers, agents, illustrators, designers, podcasters, researchers and other creatives working around culture, identity, heritage and storytelling. Also very specifically looking for a brilliant children’s book illustrator at the moment, particularly someone comfortable illustrating Black characters, and contemporary Black life. More generally, I’m keen to meet people interested in collaborating on essays, interviews, podcasts, books, events and creative projects. Basically, if your work sits somewhere around Black stories, culture, publishing or interesting ideas, come and say hello. I want to know what you’re building too 👋🏾
