I help small and medium-sized business owners protect the businesses they’ve worked hard to build. Many growing businesses insure their premises, vehicles and equipment — but overlook the people and events that could cause far greater financial damage. What happens if a key person dies or becomes seriously ill? What happens to the business if one of the owners can no longer work? Could the remaining shareholders afford to buy a deceased owner’s shares from their family? How would the business cope if the person responsible for generating most of the revenue suddenly wasn’t there? And are business owners themselves properly protected if illness prevents them from working? My role is to help business owners identify these risks before they become a problem, quantify the potential financial impact, and put appropriate protection in place. If you run an SME and have never properly stress-tested what would happen if one of the key people in your business disappeared tomorrow, I’m always happy to have a conversation.
